Management

Director: Damien Burrows

Damien is responsible for the strategic decision making around the operations of the ACTFR including performance, client liaison, marketing, human resources and administration. He is supported through a Finance Officer (Ms Susan Lesley) and an Administration Officer (Ms Sue Hine).

Damien is a Senior Research Scientist specialising in freshwater, estuarine and coastal aquatic ecosystems and catchment management. He has a BSc and PhD from James Cook University.

Laboratory Manager: Lionel Glendenning

Lionel joined the ACTFR as a water quality scientist and laboratory manager in August 2007. Following his BSc (Hons.I) and PhD degrees at the University of Sydney, he held post-doctoral appointments in Italy (CNR), Japan (Tohoku University) and Australia (ANU).

Lionel works together with the Director of the ACTFR (Dr Damien Burrows) on a range of management and leadership initiatives.

Currently, Lionel is overseeing the design and development of the ACTFR’s new facilities on the 2nd floor of the Australian Tropical Sciences and Innovation Precinct (ATSIP) building due for completion in March 2010. These facilities include offices, laboratories and a special precinct area housing freshwater aquaria.

Lionel’s broad research interests include molecular aspects in aquatic environments.

Lionel is currently pursuing business and management studies at James Cook University, School of Business, Law and Creative Arts, majoring in leadership, economics and management.
