Colton is a fish biologist and wetland ecologist specialising in freshwater fish surveys, electrofishing and habitat assessment and rehabilitation. He has a BSc (Hons) and MSc from JCU.
Colton has 12 years research experience in the tropics. This includes experience in wetland fish ecology, habitat assessment and rehabilitation, weed control and identification of key fish habitat requirements. He majored in Tropical Zoology and Freshwater Ecology for his degree. Colton has spent most of his professional life working on freshwater fish ecology, wetland assessment and rehabilitation, ground water dynamics and impacts on surfaces water in relation to fish habitat quality. This includes stream fish dynamics in seasonal streams of the Townsville region; floodplain wetland ecology and fish habitat assessment & rehabilitation; and ground water dynamics of the Tully-Murray floodplain.
Recently much effort has been directed in a comprehensive survey of freshwater fish and their key management issues throughout northern Australia, and the ecology of Tilapia invasion in Queensland.
Colton has senior electrofishing certification from the National Conservation Training Centre US Fish and Wildlife Service, has a Coxswain national boat license, scuba diving qualifications (advance open water and rescue diver) and has done a complete fit out of 2 boat mounted electrofishing boats, conforming to national standard AS/NZS 60335.2.86:2002.
