Asean Marine Water Quality

Book cover

The book “Asean Marine Water Quality: Management Guidelines and Monitoring Manual” is now published. The book and project was funded by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) under the ASEAN Australia Development Cooperation Program Regional Partnership Scheme with the ASEAN Working Group on Coastal and Marine Environment and the Asean Secretariat.

Jon Brodie and Michelle Devlin made a substantial contribution to this book, writing the 350 page long Part 2: the monitoring manual, together with authors SL Tong, and JI Marshall Crossland. The monitoring manual covers study design issues; field sampling program; laboratory analysis methodologies; data analysis and interpolation; and reporting and disseminating information.

This first edition of the ASEAN Marine Water Quality: Management Guidelines and Monitoring Manual was published in 2008 in recognition of the growing importance of effectively managing the marine waters within the ASEAN region. This publication is the culmination of the two phases of the project and is designed to provide ASEAN Member States with (i) guidelines to assist in the management of marine waters within the ASEAN region to the agreed parameters and (ii) approaches and methods for the development and implementation of marine water quality monitoring programs, to ensure this is achieved.
