After graduating in 2002 with a BSc majoring in Marine Biology, Matthew returned to JCU in 2005 to complete his honours in estuarine ecology. His honours project focused on the feeding ecology, distribution and composition of zooplanktivorous fish in tropical north Queensland estuaries.
Within ACTFR Matthew’s broad skill base in both field and laboratory work allows him to assist Damien Burrows on many projects including the Northern Australian Freshwater Fish atlas (NAFF); hypoxia effects and limits on native freshwater fish; tilapia distribution and ecological impacts in north Queensland; as well as wetland monitoring projects.
